About us

Hausdörfer-therapy helps people to liberate themselves from stuttering by removing the source of speech-anxiety. This natural and unique approach of the core of the problem is characterized by simplicity and strength. By focussing on your own speech-sound you repair the confidence in your speaking leading to speech-tranquility. At the same time, you use your own speech-sound to develop a phlegmatic disposition, a certain indifference regarding speech.

  • We want to help as many people as possible to liberate themselves from their stuttering and besides that definitively eliminate stuttering from this world;
  • We want to do this by organizing as many Hausdörfer-therapies as possible, by continuously optimizing the therapy method and by ensuring a good prevention;
  • We want to achieve that the Hausdörfer-therapy is available and affordable for everyone;
  • We want to make people’s lives happier by helping them become free from their stuttering in a personable and pleasant manner.

Hausdörfer-institute in the Netherlands

Jan Heuvel
The Hausdörfer-institute for Natural Speech in the Netherlands was founded by Jan Heuvel. Jan Heuvel stuttered from when he was four years old, which made a large impact on his youth. During his studies and later work, he managed to hide his stuttering in most situations, but the problem stayed.janheuvel

He lives in Germany since 1980 and joined a stuttering self-help group in Frankfurt am Main. Through this self-help group he ended up at a congress of people who stutter in Cologne. During a workshop which was led by a former student of Oscar Hausdörfer, he came in contact with the Hausdörfer method for the first time. This meant a turning-point in his life: a breath of fresh air from the first moment and an experience that he wishes for anyone who stutters.

With this goal in mind he ran the first Hausdörfer-therapy in the Netherlands in 1988 and in 1993 he established the Hausdörfer-institute. This became a full-time profession, which still gives him lots of satisfaction. He hopes to still accompany many people, who in many aspects are hindered by their own speech, on their road to Natural Speech.

Self-therapy in the Netherlandshns_in_nl1
The success of the Hausdörfer-institute for Natural Speech can be attributed for a big part part by a large group of enthusiastic volunteers, who are spread over the country. This group mainly consists of people who have followed the therapy. The self-therapy activities fall under a foundation. The foundation’s board together with Jan Heuvel, the other therapists and the regional specialists give direction to the strategy and the execution of the Hausdörfer-institute for Natural Speech. The board develops and organizes self-therapy activities and plays an important role in quality assurance. Promoting research of effectivity and quality of the therapy in combination with self-therapy increases the credibility of the Hausdörfer-institute for Natural Speech.
